About

In late 2006, Portland residents learned that the Parks & Recreation bureau was contemplating the sale of a piece of its property at Mt. Tabor to a neighboring college. After extensive talks with the Bureau and the workers, we have begun to craft a plan that will keep the property under City ownership and — more importantly — enhance the maintenance and nursery facilities housed there, which have fallen into a distressing state of disrepair in recent years.

City Council passed a resolution on September 26, 2007, approving a yearlong public process. We are charged with finding the best way to preserve and enhance the maintenance and horticultural facilities, so that Portland’s century-old legacy of rich and diverse parks may benefit generations to come.
